A1 The Natchez Trails - Citizen Planned and Funded Project
David Gardner, P.E. City of Natchez Engineer and Dwight Weatherford, Landscape Architect, Weatherford/McDaded, LTD This session will showcase how the citizens of Natchez developed a $ 3 million River Bluff /Walking Trails and a Downtown Historical Trails Project. Learn how the Citizens of Natchez teamed up with other agencies to plan and fund the creation of this 5.6 mile trail system. Learn how the Trails Committee raised the $ 3 million in funds needed for design and construction.

A3 "What'da You Mean I Need Therapy": Therapeutic Recreation for All
Debra Helms The what, when, where, why, and who of the therapeutic recreation approach. We will explore the process used in TR programs and how these methods apply to everyone. The vision and values of recreation, with a therapeutic process, will be revealed for individuals in the community, school, hospital, and residential settings.

A4 Opening General Session: How Public Policy and the Built Environment Affect Health
Mayor Chip Johnson Mayor Johnson will speak about his broad campaign to transform Hernando, MS, located in the most obese state in the US, into a healthy community. Through policy reform and creative funding, Mayot Johnson has added miles of sidewalks, improved public parks, launched a farmers' market, and created a Parks Department. MayorJohnson will elaborate on Hernando's local successes and the barriers that he has had to overcome in his efforts. Mayor Johnson has been broadly recognized for his work in Hernando, including an invitation from First Lady Michelle Obama to participate in the announcement of the Let's Move campaign at the White House.

Also, be prepared to get involved as class participants will participate in actual challenger sporting games!

We will help attendees identify summer camp themes and the benefits of using themes. This session will guide you as your explore new camp programming ideas. We will discuss strategies for staying within budget.

A10 NRPA - National Recommended Guidelines for Criminal Background Screening
D. Michael Pfahl NRPA has defined a comprehensive national criminal background check for employees and volunteers working in parks, recreation, and conservation agencies. Understand the wide differences in conducting background checks and what steps are required to meet both the NRPA Recommended Guidelines for Credentialing and the Standards for agency accreditation (CAPRA).

B1 Improving the Recreational Potential of Park Ponds and Lakes
Dennis Riecke, MS This session is designed to provide parks and recreation managers with an overview of the basic principles of fisheries management for small waters. Knowledge and use of these techniques and practices will improve the fishing quality of these urban public waters. Topics covered will include pond design, maintenance, stocking, liming and fertilization, pond ecology, and fish harvest regulations. Information on obtaining services and assistance from MDWFP biologists will be provided.

Elmo Collum This certification class is two-hour training on the safe use of pesticides in the work environment; this is done by a review of the core pesticide safety manual. Also during this training the individual is required to be able to identify insects, weeds, and diseases and hwo to properly apply pesticides to target pests. An additional two-hours are necessary to test the individual to meet federal and state regulations.

B5 Citizen Movement Consolidates Recreation and Plans Sports Complex in Natchez/Adams County
Mayor Jake Middleton, Chairman Tate Hobdy, and Supervisor Mike Lazarus This session will showcase how the citizens seized the opportunity to upgrade the community Parks and Recreation facilities, and more importantly to consolidate the city, county, and school district parks and recreation system. Learn how process involved citizen action, a non-binding referendum vote of support, and and interlocal agreement to set up a Citizen Recreation Legal Board Commission.
